I WILL GIVE YOU REST
Matthew 11:28-29

Matt 11:28-29

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

There are times in life when we can be overwhelmed. We have busy schedules, we are dealing with various problems, family, health, jobs all at one time. There seem not to be enough hours in the day. Sometime we may not have the strength to handle it all. Each day brings something new to add to the list. We may at times say it is just too much.

We know the Lord, we know His Word but the REST seems be beyond our
reach. When we are restless, we may think we can get it on our own. We may tackle the problem by rearranging somethings, delay somethings or
Maybe delete some things. This may be temporary, because other things
Pop up.

There are three kinds rest we need help with daily
Physical Rest The body is tried
Mental Rest Thinking, logic, problem solving
Emotional Rest The ability to recognize , express and manage feeling

Spiritual Rest Resting in the Lord and his will for your life

Physical rest seems easy to handle. All we need is a few hours of sleep
When you work all day you can become physically worn only to start over again the next day with additional chores added. We can take a vacation but still come back to the same worn out situation after awhile.

Our physical condition also affects our mental state. We can become
Anxious, worried and lose sight of the good around us. Satan has a way of
Causing us to spiral down to a place of guilt, shame and hopelessness.
It is a place where one can feel chained and bound with no hope of recovery.

Thankfully, God gives us a way to a brighter reality. A relationship with Jesus through the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit prepares us to place all our wants, desires, and hopes in the Lord’s hands.

SOUL REST
Matt 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

THE FIRST STEP to Spiritual Rest is to come to the Lord. God wants a deep One on one relationship with us. A relationship where He takes us with all Our worries, sins and brokenness to be with Him. We want find any other place or person to invite us to unload on them. It is a universal invitation To all, not just some. The Greek word for rest is to take ease or refresh

The invitation is to those who are tired, burden down no matter how heavy
The load. Jesus will refresh you. His tender love makes Him fully
Aware of your situation and needs. But you must have faith to come to Him and lay down beside Him, Don’t bring your load to Him then pick it back up again.

God’s promise is one of renewal, restoration and fellowship, You are a select group. God does not make this promise of rest to everyone, only those who Have faith in Him.

Matt 11:27
27 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal (him.)

Notice the text, Jesus decides who He will reveal the Father to. Jesus has selected you to reveal REST to. Only those who come to Him. It is Jesus that gives rest. You will not have rest in yourself or by yourself. You and I do not have the ability to shut out the world while living in the midst of the world.

To live in God’s Rest we have to not see our burdens and worries as problems but as blessings from God. Notice Jesus blesses those who have
The worries and heavy load who come to HIm. You wouldn’t know the value of Jesus REST unless you had the problem.

The second step to REST is yoking yourself to Jesus

Matt 11:29
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;

The Greek word for yoke is zugos which means a coupling, servitude, obligation, pair of balances.

Can you imagine coupling yourself to Jesus? Can you imaging obligating
Yourself to Jesus ? Can you imagine being on balance with Jesus? What is this yoke?

1. The yoke of His profession Savior, redeemer, keeper,
2. The yoke of His precepts His commands, rules, behavior
3. The yoke of His dispensations His divine plan for mankind

If you couple yourself to Jesus, guest who is carrying the load.? You and I must trust Jesus with whatever we got. He got you. We must obligate ourselves to Jesus. Whatever He desires must be our desires. We serve
Jesus who is carrying our load.

It all sounds good, but how do you put yoking yourself to Jesus in practice?
First you got to love Him. If you love me keep my commandments. If you love Jesus do what He does. That means it no longer I but Jesus.

Second you must imitate Jesus

Matt 11:29
for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Jesus is mild and cast down in heart, He is humble, puts others first
We have to let go and let God. To let go means to trust God, be patient in his timing , let Him guide you through the situation.

Letting go does not mean doing nothing, It means doing all you can do, praying always, studying the Word for direction and answers.

Letting go means realizing that God has worked the solution and will reveal all to you in His timing. God may have someone in your circle or out of your
Circle working for you.

My wife has the gift of helps. If she hears your problem, she is moved to find information to help. She has friends that need medical help. She will
Investigate their situation and help them navigate the health care system.

While you are doing all you can do, God gives you rest in your soul.
You stop fighting the do’s and don’t, the ifs and ands. You realized you are not equipped to handle all the problems you face. But God is.

Sometimes helps come from talking to someone you trust, maybe a stranger doing a doctors visit. I have a friend whose baby a had severe
Itching problem. The doctors had no clue what to do. But in the doctors
Office was a patient who made a suggestion that solved the problem.

Third, you must learn about Jesus.
Study the Word of God daily. There are over 1100 human stories in the Bible. They are about ordinary people like you and me. One of them will probably fit your situation.

Ask yourself, How did Jesus handle my situation? Look for examples.
How did Jesus handle rest? Jesus was sleep in the boat as the disciples
Battle the wave in the sea of Galilee (Mark 4:38-39). Jesus prayed before
Major decisions (Luke 6:12). What did Jesus say about your faith (Mark 10:52), your faith has healed you)?

What did Jesus say about your trouble (John 14:1)?
Matt 11:29 and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Rest is in the Lord, not you. He can give you a peace that surpasses all understanding. The more you trust and rely on God the more you will rest.
Your problems may not go away, but you will rest in your problems.

Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
When we truly serve Christ our minds are transformed to act in the spirit and not the flesh

Christ yoke is easy because of the divine instruction teaches us how to act and respond
Christ yoke is easy because we no longer act under compulsion but love and affection
Christ yoke is easy because of God’s help in maintaining a discipline life
Christ yoke is easy as we enjoy our connection with Him
Christ yoke is easy because of the hope of eternal life is in view at all times.

The burdens of Christ are obedience, love and service
The burdens of Christ are light compared the unpardoned sin
The burdens of Christ are light because He gives us the strength to bear them
The burdens are light because He come along side us to help us carry them

An example of boy having a heavy bag of groceries to carry into the house,
Christ comes along side pick up the bag and give the boy a loaf of bread to carry. That is what Jesus does for us, He carries our burden along side of us.

To Rest in Jesus is a lifestyle change. Jesus has to be first in our decision making. Talking to Jesus should be the first thing we do when we awake,
We should seek Jesus first before we look for a solution We should think Jesus before we speak.

REST IN JESUS
